native Australian AmericanThe story of the pilgrims and Native Americans was always taught in elementary civilize during the Thanksgiving holiday. The teachers frequently called Native Americans Indians. It never crossed my approximation that the news program Indians was the politically incorrect way of labeling Native Americans until a student sh pop outed it out to the teacher in 5th grade. It finally clicked in my mind that Indians are people from India not America.Native Americans were always portrayed to be accepting culture when confronted with the Europeans during Thanksgiving. In elementary school, everything is happy. I dont even remember learning American history. Columbus sailed the ocean blue, ruling he was in India, and started the trend of labeling Native Americans as Indians. In subaltern high school, I learned more about the Native Americans view on the colonization of America. They were people who were forced out of their land to make room for European settlem ents.
